I think local rides are tough to get folks interested in because there isn't any good riding around here. I like to do track days and go up to N. Ga. and western NC for some great twisties. Problem is --- I'm not crazy about riding with guys that aren't use to that kind of riding.
So --- I pretty much stick to meeting up with track guys and bringing them to rides in the twisties.
I really like meeting up with new folks but I don't think it has to rotate around a bunch of flatland riding.
The turn out at the local bike nights suck in the summer, for some reason.
I don't have any answers but I'm totally open to about anything that has bikes in it.

I think this forum doesn't have lots of action because although there are lots of motorcyclists in these parts, there are other forums. And apart from that, not all are the forum kind. I frequent savannahstreetracing, there used to be a group of people who would ride from there, but they seem to have moved (literally, or, to the racetrack)
I don't think we need a club, I've been aproatched by some motorcycle club leaders before. They tried to talk their way into getting us to pay monthly dues
I enjoy riding with people who aren't always trying to set a new land speed record. An occasional hard lean and exit out of a cop free corner, on the other hand, are welcomed.

i've said it before, i do the best i can to lead a twisty ride with what we have around here. sorry if it's not good enough, we kinda had some giant glaciers flatten out the terrain a few thousand years ago.
we can't all just pack up and meet in the mountains on a whim, most of us are married to the daily grind.
what michael said, a lot of guys that ride just don't happen to be tech savvy, watching youtube might be the extent of their internet use.
i also agree with enjoying riding with guys that aren't out to prove they're they can get a knee down or push their new triple comound 5% treaded tires to the limits. but then again i like it when riders can keep up with me as well.
this reminds me of what our admin/owner of yzf600R.com posted the other day....basically if we have any more deaths at the dragon, the yearly meet is canceled. too many people pushing the limits and vacations ending in funerals. if i organize a ride i assure you that i want everybody to make it home but at the same time enjoy that they showed up. there's a fine line here, but when everybody compromises and rides at their own level, great things can happen.
so joe, you know where i'm coming from here?

I agree. Riding around here doesn't require any skill so there should be nothing for anyone to prove. However, if we don't meet occasionally just to get better acquainted --- this thing will die.

This little ass font is killing me and makes me not want to continue posting. I have to wear different glasses on the computer and there is no reason for it to be this small anyway.
Whoever is running this can fix this if they want to.
Please respond

ctrl + mouse scroll up/down should change viewing size. if not go to VIEW -> Text Size
any website can have any size font depending on what your settings are. since i don't do any coding for SEGA, you would have to get ahold of Hibiscus or Speedbump.
i agree about meeting every so often, but that means that everybody take some time out of their busy schedules if possible to show up. key words: show up!

I need to get off my ass and fix this noise my bike is making then I'll be down for riding most weekends. I replaced my cam chain tensioner with a manual one several weeks ago and it is making a tapping noise that gets louder the higher i rev it. Going to give it a compression test and listen to the noise with my stethoscope while the engine is running to try to isolate the location of the noise. It runs great other than this noise and I don't remember the noise before installing the CCT. I know it's in time and tensioned properly so it's time to dig deeper. I'm open to any thoughts you guys might have. I'm also down for meeting up without a ride planned just to meet who I'll be riding with later on. Fri-Sundays are best for me.

That is sooo cool about the ctrl mouse thing. First I've ever heard of it and I've been on these forums for years.
Thanks a bunch.

can't help you with the noise, unfortunately, but I do agree on the meeting up w/out a planned ride though.

I just got one of these because I have chain clutter at startup that goes away within a few seconds.
Did you get an APE cam chain tensioner? The instructions, although vague, stated to open the engine to adjust the tension. I am not to fond of this, if I have to, I will. Any other solutions?

Yes, you are awesome --- oh mighty one!!! hehehehe I'm sure glad you were able to handle that by phone. Thanks again. I like the new big print I'm reading now. It's great for us old folks.
I was thinking about gong to bike night last night but it was sooo hot.

Meeting up without a ride? Maybe have a meal?
I believe that's called a Bike Night. (or a club meeting)

What's wrong with Harley's ???
I mean other than they're slow, overpriced, and generally emphasize image over performance.

Nothing is wrong with them -- I just don't care about them much. I don't mind looking at them but that's all. I'm a speed freak and pretty much stay bored on a bike under 100 mph unless it's in a corner. I don't ride crazy on the local streets -- most of the time.

Yes, i bought the APE CCT. It's a nicely machined part and I installed it correctly. I removed the valve cover and I have two plugs on the side of the motor, one for the crankshaft bolt and one for the timing mark. From what i can tell that's the most accurate way to properly adjust the tension. I'm just afraid there may have some damage when the chain jumped one or two teeth. Guess I'll fin out this weekend.
